Who are 3 NBA players which are Jehovah’s Witnesses?

NBA players: Many Jehovah’s Witnesses are active in the NBA Players in the most prominent basketball league in the world come from a wide variety of countries, races, religions, and even sexual orientations.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses are a Christian sect that was founded in the 1870s. It has more than 100,000 congratulations as of 2022, and many of its members are well-known athletes.

Some NBA players have identified with this religion throughout its history, and one player even retired to concentrate on his health. This article will examine the careers of three NBA players who are Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Darren Collison took retirement to concentrate on his Jehovah’s Witness beliefs

From 2009 through 2019, Darren Collison was an active member of the NBA. He played for the Indiana Pacers for four years before spending three years in Sacramento. The point guard also participated for both Los Angeles teams, Dallas, and New Orleans.

The guard chose to retire in 2019 and devote himself to his faith. He made this choice at the age of just 31, fresh off an 11-point, 6-assist campaign with the Pacers.

Before announcing his retirement, Collison said, “While I still love basketball, I realise there is something more important, which is my family and my faith.”

In December 2021, the point guard made a comeback to the NBA and agreed to a 10-day deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. Only three games saw him play before the Lakers released him when his contract ran out.

Danny Granger

Another Jehovah Witness player played for the Indiana Pacers. Granger was one of the Pacers’ top scorers during his nine seasons with the franchise.

The forward played for the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Clippers after Indiana. Unfortunately, he was unable to take home the title ring.

Granger was brought up in a Jehovah’s Witness household but wasn’t baptised until 2017. This happened two years after his final NBA season.

Dewayne Dedmon’s spiritual journey

One of the NBA’s top supporting players is Dewayne Dedmon. He is a dedicated athlete who understands his position on the court and does everything in his ability to help his team win.

Unfortunately, if not for his mother, the 7-footer might not have played in the NBA. Dedmon’s mother prevented him from playing basketball because they were Jehovah’s Witnesses at the home where he was raised.
