US Open: Emma Raducanu, a British youngster, is one match away from making the main draw in New York

Emma Raducanu, a young wonder from the United Kingdom, has advanced to the last qualifying round of the US Open, where she will face world No 95. Mayar Sherif, 18, of Egypt, made her Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon, where she advanced to the fourth round.

Emma Raducanu, a British youngster, advanced to the last qualifying round at Flushing Meadows, putting her one step closer to her maiden main draw debut at the US Open.

Raducanu, who famously reached the fourth round at Wimbledon in July, overcame Georgian Mariam Bolkvadze 6-3 7-5 to come one step closer to her maiden foreign Grand Slam main draw.

The 18-year-old has had a fantastic few weeks in the United States, reaching the final of the WTA Challenger event in Chicago. With her run, she has climbed to number 150 in the world rankings.

Raducanu showed incredible perseverance in sweltering conditions to set up a battle with Egyptian standout Mayar Sherif.

Harriet Dart advanced to the final round of qualifying by defeating Lucrezia Stefanini 7-6 (7-1) 7-6 (7-5), with the opening set featuring 10 service breaks.

After defeating Vitalia Diatchenko 6-2 5-7 6-4, Dart will face Viktoriya Tomova, while Katie Boulter will face Kristina Kucova.

Marco Trungelliti defeated Liam Broady 6-4 6-4 in the US Open final.

In the women’s draw, Francesca Jones was beaten 6-4 6-4 by Jaqueline Adina Cristian, Jodie Burrage was beaten in three sets by Stefanie Voegele 3-6 6-4 7-6 (7-4) and Samantha Murray was beaten 6-4 3-6 6-3 by Monica Niculescu.
