Tennis Tournament: Andy Murray has parted ways with long-time coach Jamie Delgado, with German Jan De Witt joining his staff as they prepare for the Australian Open in Abu Dhabi.
The former world No. 1 began working with Delgado in 2016, but after five and a half years together, the two have chosen to part ways.
Murray has been practising with De Witt at the National Tennis Centre on a trial basis, and the Scot will go to Abu Dhabi with the German to prepare for the Mubadala World Tennis Championship.
Next week, Murray will face Dominic Thiem in an exhibition match, while US Open champion Emma Raducanu will face Olympic champion Belinda Bencic in the same event.
After working alongside Johanna Konta’s former coach at the Stockholm Open, three-time Grand Slam champion Murray has ended his short-term tryout with Esteban Carril.
De Witt has worked with Gael Monfils, the former world No. 6, and Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili.
Delgado will now collaborate with up-and-coming new talent. Denis Shapovalov is the world No. 14 player from Canada.
He joined Murray’s squad in February 2016, working under Ivan Lendl at the time, and helped Murray win his second Wimbledon title and climb to No. 1 in the global rankings.
Delgado took over for Lendl the next year and continued with him through his two hip surgery and subsequent efforts to regain his form and fitness during the previous few years.
