Tennis Tournament: Due to the rapid spread of Covid-19, the Battle of the Brits tennis event in Aberdeen has been postponed.

Andy and Jamie Murray, Cameron Norrie, and Dan Evans were among those expected to compete in the demonstration tournament featuring the finest male players from Scotland against their English counterparts on Tuesday and Wednesday.

However, because of a surge in Covid-19 instances and concerns about the impact of the Omicron version, tournament director Jamie Murray and his organising team have decided to postpone the event until 2022.

He stated, ” “Obviously, this is extremely frustrating for those of us who organised the event, as well as the players and, most importantly, the fans who came to watch us.

“Andy and I, as well as all of the other players scheduled to compete, are devastated, but some things are greater than tennis. The only thing that matters is that everyone is safe.

“The passion for the event in Aberdeen has blown us away, and we’re all looking forward to organising the Schroders Battle of the Brits – Scotland vs. England in 2022.”

Andy Murray was forced to withdraw from the Australian Open earlier this year due to an ill-timed illness, and he announced on Thursday that a planned family Christmas in Scotland has been cancelled.

St Mirren’s training has been cancelled due to positive cases.
The tournament was postponed immediately after St Mirren, a Scottish Premiership club, cancelled training after a number of positive Covid-19 tests were returned by players.

The club is awaiting the results of more PCR tests, but the game against Celtic on Wednesday night is still scheduled to take place.

“St Mirren Football Team can confirm that following recent lateral flow testing, we have sadly received a number of positive COVID-19 instances,” the club said in a statement on its website.
