Tennis News: The world No. 1 defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets to advance to the last four, where he will face Casper Ruud; Iga Swiatek extended her winning streak to 26 matches in the women’s draw.

Novak Djokovic advanced to the semi-finals of the Italian Open with a straight-sets victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime in Rome, marking the Serbian’s 999th match win.

The world No. 1, who last won the competition in 2020, resumed his preparations for the French Open by defeating his Canadian opponent 7-5 7-6 (7-1).

After defeating Denis Shapovalov 7-6 (9-7) 7-5 earlier on Friday, Djokovic will face Casper Ruud for a spot in the final.

Following victories over home favourite Jannik Sinner and Chilean Cristian Garin, Stefanos Tsitsipas will face 2017 winner Alexander Zverev in the other semi-final.

Tsitsipas won 7-6 (7-5) 6-2, while Zverev, the world number three, advanced 7-5 6-2.

In the women’s draw, defending champion Iga Swiatek defeated 2019 US Open winner Bianca Andreescu to set up a final four meeting with third seed Aryna Sabalenka.

Swiatek won 7-6 (7-2) 6-0 to continue her winning record to 26 matches, while Sabalenka of Belarus came back from a set down to beat American Amanda Anisimova 4-6 6-3 6-2.

The victor of the Madrid Open will face Russian Daria Kasatkina, who was leading 6-4 3-2 against Jil Teichmann when she retired due to a thigh injury.
