Tennis News: Naomi Osaka announced her retirement from tennis at the US Open; the 23-year-old won her maiden WTA championship in Indian Wells last year; Johanna Konta has also withdrawn from the forthcoming WTA competitions in Chicago and Indian Wells.
Naomi Osaka, who announced her retirement from tennis during the US Open, has withdrawn from the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells next month.
After falling in the third round of the year’s final major, the four-time Grand Slam champion told reporters she needed the break to focus on her mental health.
Osaka has struggled on the court since withdrawing from the French Open in May due to a disagreement with tournament administrators about mandatory media appearances, which she said had a negative impact on her performance.
