Tennis News: Following his first-round loss at the Atlanta Open in July, Raonic’s 2021 season was cut short due to another heel issue.

Milos Raonic, the former world number three, has withdrawn from the Australian Open, the organisers said on Saturday, as he continues his recovery from a heel injury.

After a three-month layoff due to a thigh injury, Raonic returned to the circuit in March. However, after losing in the first round of the Atlanta Open in July, his 2021 season was cut short due to another heel issue.

Milos Raonic has withdrawn from the #AusOpen as he recovers from an Achilles injury,” the Grand Slam’s organisers said on Twitter.

Raonic, who turns 31 on Monday, attained a career-high world ranking of third in 2016, the year he reached the Wimbledon finals and advanced to the Melbourne Park semi-finals.

The Canadian, who is presently ranked 70th, is the latest player to withdraw from the Australian Open due to injury, joining Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka, Jennifer Brady, Karolina Pliskova, Karolina Muchova, Serena Williams, and Bianca Andreescu.
