Tennis News: On Thursday, Emma Raducanu will face Zhang Shuai of China in the second round of the US Open; the British youngster says, “I’m just loving it and I want to remain here as long as possible, so I’ll keep fighting.”

Emma Raducanu has vowed to keep fighting as she prepares to continue her dream run at the US Open with her greatest challenge yet.

With a straight-set victory over Stefanie Voeegele, the 18-year-old advanced to the second round, where she will face Zhang Shuai again.

At the Silicon Valley Classic in early August, Raducanu’s Chinese opponent defeated her 6-3 6-2.

Raducanu’s first hard-court encounter was also her first since Wimbledon, but the Bromley teenager believes she will give her experienced opponent a stronger fight on Thursday after improving in the weeks since coming through three rounds of qualifying in New York.

“I’ve played four matches at the US Open and I’m feeling quite comfortable here in the conditions,” she added. “I feel I’ve acclimatised well owing to the few weeks I’ve spent in the States.”

“I don’t believe any two tournaments can be compared because there are so many different circumstances, but I’m having a good time here.”

Raducanu, who stated that she and her Chinese mother speak Mandarin, said: “I know Zhang, and whenever we see one other, we talk a lot in Mandarin.

“We got along swimmingly, and she’s a fantastic player. It was my first game on hard courts, and I played her in San Jose.

“This time, I’m going in with everything I’ve learned from the first one. Hopefully, it will be a fantastic rematch, and I believe I have progressed much in my game since then.”

During her one hour and 18 minutes versus Vogele, Raducanu smashed 24 winners, and the Brit believes she is still learning and enjoying the opportunity without any pressure.

“I feel like I’m absorbing everything, so there’s no pressure.” “It’s all a bonus and a free swing for me because I don’t have anything to lose,” Raducanu explained.

“Everything is still so new to me, and I adore New York, the energy, and everything.” It’s an incredible experience to go about the city.
