Tennis News: Fearless “Beating Stefanos Tsitsipas is a dream come true for me,” Carlos Alcaraz stated after becoming the youngest male player to reach the last 16 in New York since Michael Chang and Pete Sampras in 1989.

Carlos Alcaraz, 18, of Mexico, surprised third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas to advance to the fourth round of the US Open in New York.

The Spaniard has already been dubbed Rafael Nadal’s successor, and he made the most of his moment on the big stage, winning 6-3 4-6 7-6 (7-2) 0-6 7-6 (7-5)

Alcaraz has already been tipped as Rafael Nadal’s replacement, and he made the most of his moment on the big stage.

“I have no words to describe how I’m feeling right now,” he stated. I’m just not sure what transpired in the courtroom. I can’t believe I defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in such a thrilling encounter.

“It’s a dream come true for me.”

The match at Arthur Ashe Stadium was a rollercoaster ride, with Alcaraz down by a set and 3-0 before rallying from 5-2 down to win the third set on a tie-break.

Tsitsipas had been chastised for the length and timing of his restroom breaks, with Andy Murray harshly criticising him after their first-round match, and the Flushing Meadows crowd booing him as he walked off the court after losing the third.

But Alcaraz was not done, and in the finale, the teenager turned up the heat once more before winning the final tie-break after four hours and six minutes.

He is the youngest man to reach the last 16 in New York since Michael Chang and Pete Sampras in 1989, and he should have great chances of progressing further, given unseeded German Peter Gojowczyk in the next opponent.

Tsitsipas believes he has been misunderstood and has called those claims “absolutely incorrect.” He also claims he has been labelled the villain “for no reason.”

“I’m not pretending that everyone loves me,” he remarked. It is not my goal to be adored by everyone. Everybody can pick their favourite player and a team. I’ve had that feeling, but I’ve mostly ignored it.

“It’s because people don’t know,” says the narrator. When people aren’t truly involved in the sport and don’t understand what’s going on, all of these charges are entirely incorrect.

“Then there was the crowd here, I suppose these were the two most intense things that happened here.” In some ways, I was taken aback. Because I’m out there playing my game, I don’t really let myself down. I mean, fan support is crucial, but all I have to do now is perform. It makes no difference at that time.

“I understand that everything has been working against me for no reason. I went to the bathroom like any other athlete. It’s possible that I took a little longer than the other athletes.
