Stan Wawrinka will face a spell on the sidelines after he underwent surgery on a niggling left foot problem. Wawrinka earlier underwent knee surgery after his last ATP title win in 2017. He has faced a number of injuries since then where his rank plummeted as low as 263rd before recovering and is currently ranked 21st in the world.
“After having some problems in my left foot for a while, I have decided to do a small procedure on it,” Wawrinka said. “Everything went well. I will be out for a few weeks but can’t wait to start practising again soon.”
Wawrinka lost in the second round of the Australian open last month before reaching the final 32 in Rotterdam and Doha this month. His coach Daniel Vallverdu recently revealed that Wawrinka is looking at making one final push before the end of his career.
