French Open: Emma Raducanu, the US Open champion, leads the British contingent into the main draw of Roland Garros on Monday.

The US Open winner begins her campaign against Linda Noskova, a 17-year-old from Slovakia, in the third round on Court Simonne-Mathieu at 2.30 p.m. (BST).

Last year’s French Open girls champion, Noskova is the latest in a long line of Czech players to win major tournaments.

Despite fears about a back ailment, Raducanu, 19, declared herself fit and appeared serene as she practised with LTA coach Louis Cayer by her side on Sunday.

Raducanu said she believes clay will be one of her finest surfaces ahead of her debut for Great Britain in the Billie Jean King Cup play-off against the Czech Republic last month.

Her credo is still that she needs time, patience, and a little fiddling with her game.

“I think that something the clay has taught is how to experiment, play with the ball and the court dimensions,” she said. “I think the drop shot is a pretty good shot to use in the game. Especially on clay where people might sit back a little bit.

“I don’t particularly see myself as a drop shutter, chipper thing. I just think that what I’m doing is more me experimenting and having fun.”

Raducanu enters her first match having played nine clay matches in the last month and believes she has adapted to the surface far faster than she anticipated.

“You don’t have to always just grind it out. Sometimes you can put your hard court game on a clay court, as well. It’s just finding the balance. I think that clay definitely teaches you that.”
