French Open: Cameron Norrie, the British No. 1, got the greatest possible start to this year’s French Open by winning the Lyon Open on Saturday, claiming his fourth career ATP title.

Top seed Norrie, who was beaten in last year’s final by Stefanos Tsitsipas, recovered from a tie-break loss in the second set to beat Slovakia’s Alex Molcan, who is mentored by Novak Djokovic’s former tutor Marian Vajda.

In the second set, the Brit squandered two match points but came back with flying colours.

Norrie, who has risen to world No. 11, wins his fourth ATP championship after winning his third at Delray Beach earlier this season and reaching the final in Acapulco.

Norrie was ecstatic to have won his first title on clay after such a long wait.

He remarked during his on-court interview: “It’s my first title on the clay, so it’s significant.

“I’m overjoyed with how well I handled things this week. So far, this one feels the greatest. I’m not sure why, but it’s something amazing, and I couldn’t be happier. I’m speechless right now.

It was an incredible atmosphere. Thanks to everyone for coming out.”

Norrie added: “I had chances to close the matches in straight sets this week and get it done easier than usual and it didn’t go that way and I was able to let that go and respond.

“In the third set, I moved really well and it’s nice to get over the line.”

Norrie has yet to make it past the third round of a Grand Slam tournament, having been eliminated in the third round of the French Open due to some unlucky draws. On Monday, he takes on Manuel Guinard, a French wildcard.

Martina Trevisan of Italy won her maiden WTA championship with a 6-2 6-1 victory over Claire Liu of the United States in the Grand Prix final in Rabat on Saturday.

Trevisan, ranked 85th in the world, had beaten first seed Garbine Muguruza earlier in the competition and capitalised on her opportunity in the final, defeating world No. 92 Liu.
