ATP Cup 2022: After a comeback win over the United States in their doubles match, Jamie Murray is pleased that Great Britain has maintained itself in a position to reach the ATP Cup 2022 semi-finals.

The 35-year-old and his doubles partner Dan Evans came back from a set and a service break down to overcome Taylor Fritz and John Isner 6-7 (3-7), 7-5, 10-8, giving the British team a 2-1 overall triumph.

The British team’s progress now depends on Germany defeating Canada in their Group C match on Thursday, but Murray was pleased with how he and Evans battled back to upset the American duo.

Murray explained, “We knew if we could get in the points, we could use our ability to win them.”

“Obviously, regaining the lead at 4-2 gave us a boost of confidence, and we ended the match strongly after that.”

“For the squad, it was a great exciting day; we’re stoked to win, and hopefully the results go our way so we can get out there again on Saturday.”

Evans had started the match against the Americans with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) victory over Isner in singles, but a 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 6-1 loss for British No 1 Cam Norrie against Fritz ensured the match would go to doubles.

Nonetheless, the British pair held their nerve to win, and Evans credited the team’s enthusiasm for their success.

“We’re all tight,” Evans added. “It’s amazing to come through.” “I liked it two years ago, and I like it even more this year.”

“Whatever happens, we’ve done a fantastic job, and the bench was pumped up and helped us get through.” They kept our spirits high, which is why it’s a team event and we’re proud of our bench.”
