Tennis News Today: On Monday in Tel Aviv, Novak Djokovic played wheelchair tennis. The video of the match between the world’s seventh-ranked tennis player and Israeli player Elay Chayot was posted on Sunday by the tournament’s official Twitter account. Prior to engaging Chayot in combat on the court, Djokovic spoke with him while sitting in the wheelchair. The two athletes smiled for photos and patted one other on the back after the game. Notably, the incident happened just before Djokovic’s last match in the men’s singles competition.
During this time, Novak Djokovic defeated Marin Cilic in the Tel Aviv Open final. Thus, the Serbian tennis prodigy won his 89th championship overall and third in 2022. Djokovic, 35, triumphed 6-3, 6-4 to add the Israeli hard court trophy to wins on the Rome clay and Wimbledon grass this year.
As part of a rivalry that dates back to 2008, it was Djokovic’s 19th victory over Cilic in 21 encounters.
Since capturing his seventh Wimbledon title and 21st Grand Slam trophy in July, Djokovic was taking part in his maiden singles match.
Due to his unwillingness to get immunised, he was barred from the US Open and the entire North American hard-court swing. He later returned for Roger Federer’s farewell match in the Laver Cup team competition in London last month.
On Sunday, Djokovic won the 127th final of his career. He was able to win titles on all three of the sport’s surfaces, making him the first guy to do it this year.
Now, Djokovic will compete in the Astana ATP competition, where the top seed is US Open champion and current world number one Carlos Alcaraz.
