Manchester United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has commented on the performance of midfielder Jesse Lingard.
Lingard, who now plays for West Ham, scored a double in his debut match for the London club.
“I always told him, ‘Be ready when you get the chance. If not here, you will definitely find yourself somewhere else’ You’ve seen the shape he’s in. He’s perfectly prepared. I’m very happy with him. I hope he keeps going in the same direction. Maybe he’ll give Gareth [Southgate] a tough task when he has to pick the squad for the Euros. If Lingard maintains that form, Gareth may call him up for the national team,” the United coach told Sky Sports.
“There is a big fight for a place in the England squad. Why shouldn’t Jesse be there if he’s in the same form? If he plays like that, he’ll prove himself perfectly at West Ham and get back into the England squad. I hope he can get back to that level.”
“I am so happy for Jesse. When we let him go we thought we had to do the right thing because Jesse has been as professional as possible, very good, he has worked hard all the time. He’s got a great character. It was hard for me not to put him in the bid,” Solskjaer said.
