Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane responded sharply to a question about his future during a press conference.
“We won the championship last year, not 10 years ago. Show some respect for that,” ESPN quotes Zidane as saying.
“Last year we won La Liga. We did. Real Madrid… Next season we may have to make some changes. But in this one we have the right to fight. Let’s fight,” he said.
He added: “You [journalists] talk a lot. But you have to take responsibility. Say to my face: I want you to leave. Or: we want you to leave. But you have to say it to my face, not behind my back.
“I’m in charge of the team. If something is not working, you have to look at who is responsible. Next season there will probably have to be something done. But this year the team deserves to continue [with this squad].
“One day I’m leaving [Real Madrid], the next day I’m not, then we play a draw or lose, there’s talk of resignation again. Every time we have a bad match, they ask me about it. I don’t deserve to be treated like that.
“I’m a bit angry, I’ve been isolated for a fortnight [because of the coronavirus] and I’m looking forward to going out and showing that I will fight to the end.”
