Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta has spoken out about the importance of forward Lionel Messi to the club.
“Messi costs about 8% of total expenditure, but he generates 30% of the club’s revenue. Leo brings in a lot of revenue for Barcelona and the revenue he brings in is very important for the club. He brings in more than he spends,” said Laporta to Sky Sport Italia.
“I know him well, I have a good relationship with him. He’s not the kind of guy who’s here for the money. Of course, it will take a competitive offer from a sporting point of view because he is a winner, he wants to win again with Barcelona,” he added.
“I will do everything I can to ensure Messi stays at Barcelona. To guarantee this, a serious offer must be made,” he said.
“Messi must be treated with the love he deserves. The offer must be worthy financially, but he’s not doing it for the money.”
