Andrea Pirlo explained it was right to rest Cristiano Ronaldo in the Derby d’Italia.
“I understand that Ronaldo wasn’t happy at being substituted, but it was only right to rest him for the upcoming Serie A game, even if just a few minutes,” the Juventus coach explained to Rai Sport.
“He could not have answered his critics in a better way than he did tonight.”
Indeed, the brace of the Portuguese hero helped Juventus secure Tuesday’s first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals against Inter.
But, after being substituted by Alvaro Morata, Ronaldo appeared disappointed.
After 76 minutes, the 35-year-old was substituted by Alvaro Morata and did not seem pleased with Andrea Pirlo’s decision.
