Sergio Garcia was penalised for leaving the BMW PGA

BMW PGA: Sergio Garcia received punishment for failing to give a reason for his withdrawal from the BMW PGA Championship after the first round last month, the DP World Tour said on Tuesday.

Sergio Garcia had to give “emergency reasons or medical circumstances judged reasonable,” according to the European circuit’s rules, to support his withdrawal. Fine amounts are not disclosed by officials.

Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the play was suspended during Round 1 at the BMW PGA, and there was no play on Friday at Wentworth Club. The competition was cut down to 54 holes, yet when the second round started on Saturday, Garcia was pictured in Austin, Texas, watching the University of Texas football game.

Garcia also seems prepared to renounce his membership in the DP World Tour. This season, he has only competed in the Dubai Desert Classic, BMW International, and BMW PGA. Four competitions are required to keep membership active, including three Rolex Series contests and a contest in Garcia’s country of residence that he hasn’t yet participated in.

Garcia, who is competing in the LIV Golf event this week in Jeddah, would not be qualified for the Ryder Cup if he lost his European membership.

DP World Tour events can still be played by LIV Golf members up until February 2023, when a legal challenge will be heard in a United Kingdom court. Garcia, who has 14 career victories and lifetime membership on the European Tour, can continue to compete in DP World Tour events, but he won’t be eligible for Ryder Cup points next year.
