Sentry Tournament of Champions will mark Will Zalatoris’ comeback from a back injury

Sentry Tournament: Return of Will Zalatoris is scheduled.

Zalatoris, who has been dealing with a lower back injury since the FedExCup playoffs in August, will start play at the Sentry Tournament of Champions at Kapalua the first week of January.

Zalatoris was a contender at the BMW Championship a week after claiming his first Tour victory at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis. But during the second round, he suffered a back injury while hitting a tee shot.

After playing the next hole and receiving care from the on-site physiotherapist, the 26-year-old decided he couldn’t continue playing through the discomfort and withdrew. A few days later, after discovering he had two herniated discs in his back, Zalatoris withdrew from the Tour Championship. He dropped in the FedExCup standings from third to thirty.

Zalatoris was present at the Presidents Cup but was unable to participate due to an injury.

At Quail Hollow, he added, “This is like being hung by your toenails.”

Despite suffering a number of setbacks on the course the year before his injury, Zalatoris enjoyed a career year.

Luke List defeated Zalatoris in a playoff during the Farmers Insurance Open. Later, Zalatoris found himself in a playoff at the PGA Championship but lost to Justin Thomas. He came within a few feet of forcing a playoff on his 72nd hole at the U.S. Open. That was his third major runner-up finish.

The third time was the charm in the playoffs. At TPC Southwind in Memphis, Zalatoris defeated Sepp Straka on the third extra hole.

Afterward, Zalatoris said, “It’s sort of hard to say ‘about time’ when it’s your second year on Tour, but about time.

The world No. 7 aspires to build on his 2022 campaign now that he has the monkey off his back and is once again in good condition. And soon after the start of the new year in Hawaii, that quest will begin.
