Saudi Ladies International Winner: The top female golfers will get the same prize money as the men at the Aramco Saudi Ladies International on the Ladies European Tour starting in 2019, thanks to a hefty five-fold increase in the purse.

At the conclusion of the competition at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club in King Abdullah Economic City in Saudi Arabia on February 16–19, the prize money will rise from $1 million to $5 million, with the tournament winner taking home $750,000.

The PIF Saudi International on the Asian Tour has undergone revisions that will allow female golfers to compete for the same prize money as men. The Ladies European Tour’s third-largest purse, at $5 million, will be awarded.

A 120-player field of the highest calibre will compete in the competition, including players from the LET, the Women’s World Golf Rankings, and invitations from sponsors.

LET Chief Executive Alexandra Armas lauded the increase in prize money to parity with the men’s as a “landmark moment for our Tour, and for women’s sport internationally” when it was announced as part of a renewed arrangement with Golf Saudi.

She continued, “It will enable the tournament to flourish in every aspect, from its goal and influence on social change to the provision of extraordinary experiences for spectators and players at the event and in the community.

This is a message to all young women that golf is for them and that they may take up the sport as a hobby and a career.

Majed Al Sorour, the CEO and deputy chairman of Golf Saudi, stated: “We are pleased to offer the ladies equal prize money to the men from 2023 as part of our ambitious goals to attract the world’s greatest players and promote indigenous talents.

“It’s incredibly exciting to announce a five-fold increase in the prize money, and this just underscores our goal to help further boost the profile of women’s golf and provide the players with the rewards that they merit,” said the prize fund’s announcer.

The growth of the sport and rising participation rates depend on showcasing the top female golfers in the globe as role models.
