NBA News: Anthony Davis departs the Lakers’ defeat to the Cavaliers with flu-like symptoms

NBA News: With flu-like symptoms, Anthony Davis was forced to exit the first half of the LA Lakers’ 116-102 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday.

The Lakers went 8-2 to make up for the majority of a disastrous start to the season. Davis had scored 99 points in his previous two games and had been on a run over the previous 10. Before being asked to leave, he only managed to score one point in eight minutes.

Before being forced to end the game, the 29-year-old collected three rebounds and two assists while making no shots of his own.

Davis’ ailments, according to Lakers coach Darvin Ham, progressively grew worse during the day.

Ham reported that the man’s temperature was 101 and some change. “Although A-D felt too weak, he wanted to attempt playing. He is dehydrated and worn out. With the way he has been performing lately, that is obviously a major loss.”

Davis won’t likely play on Thursday in Toronto, according to Ham. He also emphasised that Davis’ COVID-19 test results were negative.

The 29-year-old averaged 34.2 points and 15.4 rebounds over his previous 10 games. Additionally, he made 86 per cent of his free throws and shot 63% from the field.

In the victory over Washington on Sunday night, Davis notched 55 points, 17 rebounds, and three blocks. In the previous game against Milwaukee, he scored 44 points.

He was an interior defensive presence for the Lakers, and without him, Jarrett Allen of the Cavaliers scored 24 points on 10-of-11 shooting in the first half of his comeback from injury.

LeBron James attempted to fill the void by grabbing 17 rebounds, which is a record for him on the road. Davis was replaced by reserve Thomas Bryant, who scored a season-high 19 points in 28 minutes, but Los Angeles was unable to make up for Davis’ absence. They were unable to match or control Donovan Mitchell’s power, who erupted for 43 points, six rebounds, and five assists.

James remarked, “That’s a difficult task. “Literally and metaphorically.”

The eight-time All-Star was named Western Conference player of the week on Monday after averaging 37.8 points, 13.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 3.3 blocks over the course of four games. The All-Star has only played in 76 games over the past two seasons due to injuries.
