According to reports, the proposal includes 16 teams currently slotted for playoffs seeds and six additional teams. All the teams will play eight additional regular-season games to figure out seeding prior to a play-in series for the eighth seed.

That tournament will feature the eighth- and ninth-place teams, only if they finish within four games of each other. If the ninth placed team wanted to unseat the eighth placed team then they would have to win two games head-to-head.

According to reports, the teams joining the top-eight seeds are – New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings, Portland Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs, Phoenix Suns and Washington Wizards.

The league reportedly plans to resume the regular season on July 31 and finish playoffs by October 12.
