Former player of Liverpool and Leeds Dominic Matteo has confirmed he has completely healed from a brain tumour. On Thursday, Matteo announced the news on Twitter, thanking the workers at Leeds General Infirmary and St James’ Hospital.
The 45-year-old had surgery to remove the growth in November and had completed recovery for six months.
“I received the phone call yesterday, the one I hoped for … my brain scan is clear,” tweeted the retired Scottish international. “After 6 months of anxiety, suffering, recovery, surgery and care. I’m safe! It feels incredible!”
Matteo, who represented Scotland six times, retired in 2007 after previously played for Blackburn and Stoke.
