Josh Hazlewood’s return is anticipated before the SA Test series, says Pat Cummins

SA Test series: Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia, predicts that bowler Josh Hazlewood will need one to two weeks to recuperate from his injury. The bowler is at risk of missing the opening Test match against South Africa due to a side ailment that has forced him to sit out.

At Adelaide Oval, Australia and the West Indies are now playing the second game of their two-game Test series. Michael Neser eventually took Hazlewood’s position in the starting XI to play the Windies after Hazlewood was originally scheduled to play the red-ball match in Adelaide. Despite this, Pat Cummins is still confident that the player will make a comeback because Hazlewood’s injury is not a “huge one.”

The captain said on SEN, “It’s not a huge one, it’s in a weird spot. Hopefully, it’s not too long; hopefully, it’s only one or two weeks. We all feel for Joshy (Josh Hazlewood), but cricket’s a funny thing, we play five Tests within five or six weeks and that’s the whole Test home summer. We’ll see how it tracks, but hopefully, it’s a short one (injury).

Pat Cummins will play in the South Africa series again.

Due to an injury, the Australian team captain was also forced to withdraw from the second game against the West Indies. The 29-year-old had a quad strain during the first Test in Perth, where Scott Boland was added to the starting lineup and Steve Smith served as captain. As he announced that he would start training soon to return for the South Africa Test series, Cummins provided an update on his recovery.

I’ll likely start bowling in the next day or two to make sure I’m ready for the Gabba (Test), said Pat Cummins. “I was really close to getting out there but it was a bit too high risk to take into a Test match.

The Australians will face South Africa in a three-match Test series beginning on December 17 following the conclusion of the two-match West Indies Test series.
