My Drogo injury: Due to heat in a tendon, Dan Skelton has had to retire his promising novice chaser My Drogo for the balance of the season.

Skelton had high hopes for the six-year-old, who had been as low as 13/2 in the betting for the Turners Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham in March, trailing only Henry de Bromhead’s Bob Olinger.

While he faltered on his chasing debut at the second last at Cheltenham in November, he returned to the track earlier this month to win over fences for the second time.

Skelton had planned to run in the Dipper Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham in the new year, but those plans have been put on hold.

“Unfortunately, My Drogo will miss the remainder of the season,” Skelton wrote on Twitter.

“We examined him this morning after seeing heat in his near fore tendon, and while it is a minor lesion that will heal with time, it is a very small lesion.”

Envoi Allen clashes are lame Chacun misses

After being discovered to be lame, Chacun Pour Soi will not face Envoi Allen at Leopardstown on December 27.

Despite running with tremendous disappointment in the Tingle Creek at Sandown earlier this month, coming last of the five runners, Willie Mullins’ five-time Grade One winner had been as short as 2/5 for his clash with De Bromhead’s charge.

The nine-year-old was scheduled to run in the Paddy’s Rewards Club Chase, which he won last season before winning at the Dublin Racing Festival.

Envoi Allen is up against Gordon Elliott’s Battleoverdoyen and Jessica Harrington’s Sizing Pottsie, a former stablemate.

“It’s a hamstring,” Mullins said, adding that there could be more to it.

“I asked my vet to put it in layman’s words for me, and he said it was a hamstring, so we’ll see how long it takes.”

“He was lame this morning,” Mullins’ son Patrick, who rode the horse at Sandown, said. “We’ll have to do a bit further examination to find out what it is, hopefully, it’s not too bad.”
