US Women’s Open: The USGA has announced that the prize purse for the 2022 US Women’s Open will be $10 million (£7.36 million).

The competition will take place at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina, from June 2 to 5.

The sum is nearly double that of the 2021 competition ($5.5 million, £4.1 million) and comes after the USGA announced a new collaboration with ProMedica, a healthcare company.

The prize pool for the women’s game will be the greatest in the world, rising to $12 million (£8.8 million) over the next five years.

“The USGA takes pleasure in putting on championships that not only provide a wonderful stage for the athletes but also give younger players something to aspire to,” stated USGA CEO Mike Whan.

“For more than 75 years, the US Women’s Open has been the tournament that every young girl in the globe has aspired to win.

“Our relationship with ProMedica allows us to significantly expand the tournament in every manner, from its purpose to its purse to the venues where it is held.”

“While I’m quite proud of what we’re unveiling today, I’m well aware that this is only the beginning, as we’ll be working with ProMedica.”

“We’ll work hard to change the game and what it means to young women throughout the world every year,” she says.

The USGA and ProMedica have pledged to work together to raise awareness about the necessity of tackling health inequities across the country.
