Ryder Cup 2020: The United States reclaimed the Ryder Cup by defeating Europe 19-9 at Whistling Straits; Woods congratulates Steve Stricker’s team on their ‘dominant’ victory on home turf.

Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus led the honours to Steve Stricker and his American squad following their record-breaking Ryder Cup victory at Whistling Straits.

Team USA dominated throughout to win the Ryder Cup 19-9 in Wisconsin, taking eight of the 12 points available in the Sunday singles to secure the highest winning margin in the modern era.

Woods, who has participated in eight Ryder Cups and captained the United States to Presidents Cup success in 2019, was unable to be there as a vice-captain due to serious injuries incurred in a car accident in February.

The 15-time major champion made his presence known within the team by sending a lengthy letter to the players before the biennial game, and Woods was among the first to congratulate Stricker’s team on their overwhelming triumph.

“RyderCupUSA put up a dominant display!” Woods took to Twitter. “I can’t wait to see you all and rejoice with you! Congratulations to all of the players, Vice Captains, and Captain @stevestricker.”

Stricker disclosed Woods’ participation in his backroom staff ahead of the competition, saying the 45-year-old “didn’t want to distract from the team” by attending the event, with the winning captain acknowledging the former world No. 1’s involvement during the closing ceremony.

“I’ve talked to Tiger and the assistant captains a lot,” Stricker added. “Tiger has been an important member of this team, so kudos to him. Throughout the process, we communicated often.”

Woods was joined in his praise for the record-breaking victory by Jack Nicklaus, the 18-time major champion predicting that the young and inexperienced Ryder Cup team will impress again in the years ahead.

Nicklaus tweeted, “Very pleased of @stevestricker and @RyderCupUSA.” “I built a great lead-in two days and didn’t let up on the pedal.” I had a great day of golf today!

“Congratulations, guys!” Well done! This is a huge victory for American golf! For a long time, there is a nucleus in place for a great US team.”

“To Captain @stevestricker and your fantastic crew, congratulations on bringing the Cup back home!” said Tom Watson, the losing Ryder Cup 2020 captain in 2014. I’m sure there will be a fantastic party tonight. You deserved it!”
