Robert MacIntyre considers his 2021 season a success and claims he has no regrets about opting for a PGA Tour card over aiming to qualify for Europe’s Ryder Cup team.

Despite failing to win on the European Tour this season, MacIntyre finished a career-high ninth in the season-long standings with a tied fourth place at the DP World Tour Championship, one of five top-10 finishes globally in the preceding 12 months.

After a tied-eighth finish at The Open in July, MacIntyre was in a strong position to make his Ryder Cup debut, but instead of staying in Europe to earn crucial qualification points, he chose to pursue a PGA Tour card during the summer.

MacIntyre’s attempts to win PGA Tour playing rights via the Korn Ferry Tour finals were unsuccessful, with the 25-year-old missing the cut in both events. His Ryder Cup chances were then dashed with another early exit at the BMW PGA Championship, the last qualifying event.

Robert MacIntyre told Sky Sports News, “I chose to take a chance at what was best for my own career, which was playing the Korn Ferry Tour finals.” “Out there, I didn’t have the best of two weeks.

“Looking back, would I do the same thing if I had another chance this year or next year? Absolutely. For 99.9% of the time, golf is an individual sport, and everyone’s ambition is to earn a PGA Tour card and compete against the best players in the world.

“I gave it my all and came up just short, but we’ll try again.” It was frustrating not to be able to compete in the Ryder Cup, but in the end, I didn’t perform well enough when I needed to.”

MacIntyre has slid out of the world’s top 50 but has already secured a berth in all of next year’s majors. He has high objectives, hoping to compete for one of golf’s most prestigious prizes and considering qualifying for Europe’s Ryder Cup team in 2023.

“I had really high aspirations,” MacIntyre remarked. “Because I’m a dreamer, I’m always going to set lofty ambitions.” I’m upset I didn’t win [in 2021], but I had some terrific performances in majors this year and will be able to do them all again next year.
