Justin Thomas revealed what Tiger Woods told him after a fortunate break on his final tee shot that helped him win the PGA Player Championship. Thomas was seven strokes behind the leaders at the halfway stage but rallied back with rounds of 64 and 68 to claim a one-shot victory over Lee Westwood. On the final hole, Thomas’ tee shot looked like it was heading into the water before a fortunate bounce allowed him to save par. Thomas revealed Wood’s criticism of the shot during an exchange.
“First and foremost, every conversation I’ve had with him I want to make sure he’s doing all right and feeling well,” Thomas said. “He told me that I toed my tee shot on 18, which I didn’t. I hit it right in the middle, I just overturned it a little bit, but he’s adamant that I toed it. I made sure to remind him that I didn’t, it was right where I needed to be!”
Thomas currently leads the Olympic qualification standings after confirmation from Dustin johnson that he would have to skip the Olympic games, relinquishing a chance to represent the USA in Tokyo. Thomas has said it would be a great honour to represent the US in the Olympic Games.
