Golf News: Justin Thomas is looking forward to playing with Tiger Woods again this weekend at the PNC Championship, where the 15-time major champion will make his comeback.

Woods is teaming up with his 12-year-old son Charlie for the 36-hole competition in Florida, which will be his first competitive participation since suffering significant leg and ankle injuries in a vehicle accident in February.

Team Woods has been paired with Team Thomas – Justin and his father Mike – for Saturday’s first round, with the former world No. 1 happy to see Woods back on the course.

“Just for him being out here and being somewhere other than his house and getting to meet a lot of familiar faces,” Thomas added, “my excitement level is tremendous.” “I know spending time with Charlie (Woods) is important to him, so I’m sure he’s looking forward to it.”

“In terms of the competition, I believe he has very low expectations. But, on the other hand, he’s who he is for a reason, and I’m sure he’ll be irritated if he doesn’t perform well!”

Since the accident, Woods has had considerable rehabilitation, spending three weeks in the hospital and then months rehabilitating at home before being able to gradually return to golf.

“At the end of the day, it’s like any other freak injury or accident; everyone’s rehabilitation is different,” Thomas continued.

“It’s all going to be based on what you do in rehab and things like that.” In the same way that my father’s back has good days and bad days, he has good days and bad days. Like how some days I wake up feeling better than others.

“I’m sure some days he’s like, ‘Oh, wow, I can do this,’ and other days he’s like, ‘Oh, I’m not really sure,’ when he [Tiger] is going through anything like that.” But it’s awe-inspiring and unbelievable. But I’m sure he had it circled on his calendar someplace deep down in there that he wanted to come back here.”

The 20-team field, which is only accessible to major championship or Players Championship winners and their family members, also includes Nelly Korda, the women’s world No. 1, who is looking forward to competing alongside Woods for the first time.

“I was really shocked when I got the news [about Tiger’s return], especially given it was his first tournament back,” Korda stated. “I mean, for him to come back from what he went through – was in February when he had his accident? Incredible.

“He’s made so many comebacks, and I feel like he always comes back stronger, and not many people expect that.” He has done so much for the game of golf, and without him, we would not be where we are today. He brings with him an entirely new vibe.

“I often say I don’t watch much golf, but once Tiger is in contention, I’m riveted to the television.” So that’s his contribution to the game of golf. Just being on the same field as him will be quite amazing.”
