Golf News: Despite an amazing recovery at the PNC Championship, Tiger Woods insists he is still not ready to return to the PGA Tour in the near future.
Woods and his son, Charlie, finished second in the 36-hole scramble event in Florida, making 11 straight birdies on their way to a final-round 57.
After suffering career-threatening leg and ankle injuries in February, Woods spent the majority of 2021 undergoing intensive rehabilitation.
Although the 15-time major champion – who required a cart to get around the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club – implied otherwise, playing companion Matt Kuchar claimed after the round that Woods’ swing and game were back ready for PGA Tour level.
“No, no, no, no,” Woods responded emphatically. “I completely disagree with you. I’m not at that level. I’m afraid I can’t compete with these folks right now. It’ll take a lot of effort to get to the point where I feel like I can compete with these guys at a high level.
“I think I got a better sense of what I was capable of, the shots I could make.” I didn’t play a whole lot of draws, as you may have observed. They were all short irons if I had any.
“Most of them were just hot cuts or slappy cuts up there, something up there,” says the narrator. The difficult issue for me was that what I saw from a distance and what I felt on my last look didn’t always match up. I always play by my hands and my last look. I was a short person.
“Then I hit it solid a couple of times and smoked it over a couple of greens.” I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me.”
Tiger Woods and Team Woods went bogey-free throughout the competition, and the 45-year-old was overjoyed to be able to tee it up in a tournament setting again.
Watching in awe. 😲

Woods stated, “The competitive juices are never going to go away.” “This is where I live.” I’ve spent my entire life doing this. I’m really grateful to have this chance to do it all over again.
“Earlier this year, the year didn’t get off to a great start, and it didn’t appear to be getting any better. To push as hard as we have over the last seven months, taking no days off and working our tails off each and every day, and to have this opportunity to play with my son and create memories that will last a lifetime, it’s worth it for both of us.”
Team Woods was three strokes behind the leaders going into the final round, but they tied for the lowest round on Sunday with an eagle and 13 birdies in an astounding performance only matched by eventual victors Team Daly.
