Golf News: Manon De Roey won her first Ladies European Tour title by three strokes in the Aramco Team Series in Bangkok.
A bogey-free 66 in the third and final round sent the Belgian to the top of the leaderboard, with Sweden’s Johanna Gustavsson settling for second place.
Patty Tavatanakit, the overnight leader, lost three strokes on the front nine, and De Roey followed a front-nine 34 with four birdies in a six-hole stretch on the back nine to become the third Belgian to win on the LET.
“I started quite strongly. I was hitting it quite close and made a birdie on the second,” De Roey said. “I just stayed patient and dropped in some good putts. I have been working hard on my game and I was just trying to stay patient for the win. I was really hoping to get this win last year, so I’m really happy I have got it now.”
Kylie Henry of Scotland shot a 69 to tie for third position with Thailand’s Patty Tavatanakit, the overnight leader, who shot a one-over 73 to fall back.
“I played pretty well,” Henry said after finishing on eight under in only her third competition since breaking her elbow last October. I felt confident in my swing all week, so I was pleased with my long game, and I even put reasonably well.
“I missed a few out there, but I guess that’s going to happen sometimes. On the whole, I’m absolutely delighted. This is only my third tournament back after breaking my elbow. I’m delighted.”
After a level-par 72, Felicity Johnson of England settled for a three-way tie for fifth place, falling down the leaderboard after two bogeys in her final three holes.
Compatriot Charley Hull ended in a tie for seventh place, one stroke behind on six under.
The Ladies European Tour heads to Evian Resort Golf Club in France next week for the Jabra Ladies Open, which starts on Friday.
