Golf News: Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka have been feuding for more than a year, but Koepka emerged victorious in the annual charity match in Las Vegas, admitting, “I just wanted to thrash him.”In a 12-hole version of The Match in Las Vegas, Brooks Koepka defeated fierce rival Bryson DeChambeau 4&3.
With the exception of a brief pause in September for the USA’s wide-margin Ryder Cup triumph, two of the world’s best golfers feuded for much of 2021, but it is former World No. 1 Koepka who closes the year with bragging rights.
The newest instalment of the charity event was highly anticipated, owing to the ongoing feud between the two that erupted at the PGA Championship in May, but it was one-way traffic on the course, with DeChambeau failing to settle into a rhythm at the Wynn Golf Club.
Koepka birdied the second hole from 15 feet, extended his advantage to three holes with birdies at the fifth and sixth holes, and then saw DeChambeau miss an easy birdie putt at the eighth to go four up with four holes to play.
DeChambeau conceded after missing another putt on the ninth hole, despite the official scorecard showing a halved hole and a 4&3 margin for Koepka.
“Coming out here and settling this was a lot of fun,” Koepka said.
“It’s similar to my major at the moment. I’m not going to sugarcoat it. All I wanted to do was punish him.”
When asked if he wanted to play more alongside DeChambeau, Koepka just said, “Nah, I’m good.”
