Golf News: “One of my favourite places to be in April is Augusta National,” former winner Tom Watson says of the opportunity to be an honorary starter at The Masters, which runs from April 7th to 10th.
At this year’s Masters, Tom Watson, a two-time winner, will be joined by Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player as honorary starters.
Watson, who won the Masters twice and finished third three times at Augusta National, had his final competitive appearance in the year’s first major in 2016.
The 72-year-old is looking forward to returning as an honorary starter at the historic event, which will take place from April 7th to 10th.
“One of my favourite places to be in April is Augusta National,” the 72-year-old stated.
“I am thrilled to join my friends and fellow competitors, Jack and Gary, as an honorary starter in this year’s Masters. I have many wonderful memories of watching the Masters as a child and then competing in the competition for many years.
“Jack was right behind me in both of my victories. And in 1978, when Gary won his third championship, I was there to assist him in donning the green jacket.
“In my career, moments like that stand out, and sharing the honorary starter tradition with Jack, Gary, and the Master’s patrons will be quite special.”
