Golf Club: Bryson DeChambeau insists he is completely focused on the Ryder Cup this week and has downplayed his rumoured conflict with USA teammate Brooks Koepka.
Over the last two years, the two have had several public spats, with Koepka criticising DeChambeau for his slow play and DeChambeau making fun of Koepka’s physique.
DeChambeau intimated that the rivalry had been exaggerated, and he disclosed specifics of cordial interactions between the two in the run-up to the biennial competition ahead of the Ryder Cup.
On Monday, US captain Steve Stricker stated that pairing the two this week at Whistling Straits was unlikely, while DeChambeau teased that “something exciting” with Koepka was possible.
On Tuesday, DeChambeau told the media that “a lot of this social media stuff has clearly been pushed by a lot of other forces, not necessarily us two.” “At dinner during Tour Championship week, we had some wonderful chats.
“Last night, I sat down and had supper with him, and everything was fine.” I think there’s going to be something fun here in the future, but I won’t say too much about it.”
DeChambeau also stated that his hands were “wrecked” after training for the World Long Drive Championship right after the Ryder Cup and that he plans to use that experience to his advantage for Team USA.
DeChambeau continued, “I developed some blisters on my hands and damaged my hands before the FedExCup Playoffs.” “It happened the Friday prior,” says the narrator. The narrative came out later when I was talking about how much work I was putting into it and how severely my hands hurt afterwards.
“I’ve focused my entire attention on this event in the weeks leading up to it. I believe that hitting it far is a big part of why I’m so good at golf and how I can use my length to my advantage on this course. I’ve also been working nonstop on my wedging and putting. I’m trying to figure out how to roll it better and how to better regulate my distances with this new speed.
“It’s a difficult balance, but one that I’ve been instructed to strike in order to perform at my best at the Ryder Cup.
