If we are to believe Marc Overmars, current director of football at Ajax, its hopeless for Donny Van de Beek. Instead, Overmars says his best chances are at Manchester United because Van de Beek may never return to Ajax.
Donny van de Beek’s ongoing struggles at Manchester United have seen a return to Ajax mooted.
Ajax’s director of football has himself given his former player, now 24 years old, a hint to not leave United.
United- From Dream to Nightmare
Donny Van de Beek left his homeland for England during the summer of 2020 in a £35 million ($49m) deal. It was a dream come true, being recruited by and playing for United.
But ever since, the highly-rated Netherlands international has seen the dream turn into a horrid nightmare.
The player has been restricted to just two Premier League starts. The last of those, too, came as long back as December 2020.
While his ability came under doubt (with hardly any game time to prove it), rumors of a United exit buzzed.
However, Marc Overmars has clearly stated that Van de Beek must stay and push for a starting berth at United.
“I think Donny should just fight, stay next year and try to claim a starting place,” Overmars told NOS.
“You shouldn’t leave so quickly,” the ex-Arsenal winger added, in talks with the Dutch broadcaster.
So, it seems, Van de Beek is unlikely to head back to his homeland, to Amsterdam, any time soon. Van de Beek may never return to Ajax.
