Ronaldo Rejected Atletico Madrid Before He Returned to United

In this past summer, before re-signing with Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly turned down a summer move to Atletico Madrid. In other words, Ronaldo rejected Atletico Madrid before he returned to United, to Old Trafford (football transfers).

Exactly on the day of the deadline, the 36-year-old left Juventus and returned to Old Trafford, signing a two-year contract. He thus made a comeback to Manchester United 12 years after leaving the club to join Real Madrid, in 2009.

However, the Carrusel show on Spanish radio station Cadena Ser has now revealed some unknown secrets from this scandalous summer.

Apparently, Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes attempted to entice his client back to La Liga this past summer transfer window.

Ronaldo Rejected Atletico Madrid Before He Returned to United

This summer, new Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti definitively ruled out a return to Los Blancos for Cristiano Ronaldo.

And Barcelona were also unable to afford the Portugal international due to their financial difficulties.

So, within the Spanish top-flight La Liga, Atletico Madrid was seemingly the only viable option.

So, the forward could have returned to the Spanish top flight via Atletico, because his agent desired it.

According to the report, however, Ronaldo was not at all interested in a move to Atletico.

Furthermore, the La Liga champions also declined because they did not want to sign their city rivals’ club legend. (Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid share a city, Madrid, and so they could not share Ronaldo, a former Real superstar.)

So, both parties mooted a possible move to Atletico Madrid, and a return to La Liga, which Jorge Mendes proposed.

And since then, upon is Old Trafford return, Ronaldo has already assimilated, rather quickly, into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United squad.

He has scored four goals in his first three appearances against Newcastle United, Young Boys, and West Ham United (football news).
