Conor Gallagher scored twice and James Tomkins was also on target as Crystal Palace stopped a run of three defeats. So, despite one goal, Everton lost to their hosts to renew pressure on the visiting manager Rafael Benitez. In thrilling English Premier League football news, Crystal Palace beat Everton 3-1 at Selhurst Park on Sunday

Gallagher fired home four minutes before halftime as Crystal Palace took advantage of a defensive error by Everton. And then, Tomkins hit home from a corner midway through the second half.

And even as Salomon Rondon pulled one back for Everton with 20 minutes left, Gallagher whipped up another goal. He finished his brace by sending a stunning curling shot from outside the area into the top of the net.

This ensured a home win for Crystal Palace in stoppage time.

And the result has lifted Palace above Everton in the league standings as they moved two places up, to 12th.

It also heaped pressure back on under-fire Rafael Benitez. The latter had earned some respite on Monday when Everton came from behind to beat Arsenal, to Mikel Arteta’s distress.

But after this 3-1 away loss to Crystal Palace, Everton have now won only one of their last 10 matches.

Meanwhile, Palace’s win ended a run of 13 matches without success for against Everton. It also ended a streak of recent losses to Aston Villa, Leeds United and Manchester United.

Gallagher’s opening goal came after Jordan Ayew intercepted an errant back pass from Everton’s Demarai Gray.

Ayew then passed from the left into Gallagher’s path for a polished finish.

Everton’s poor defence allowed Will Hughes’ 62nd-minute corner to evade them and find Tomkins unmarked at the back post. There, the Palace defender had ample time to recover from an initial poor first touch to hit home for 2-0.

There was a further sign of potential discord within Everton’s team when striker Richarlison responded petulantly to Benitez substituting him.

However, it was his replacement, Salomon Rondon, who reduced the deficit by scoring an opening goal in the 70th minute.

Rondon set up a shot for Abdoulaye Doucoure and then reacted quickest when his effort was blocked. So, the substitute’s sliding home the rebound offered Everton the possibility of a comeback.

Five minutes later Everton went close to an equaliser when Rondon stormed down the right from Ben Godfrey. Rondon passed back for Andros Townsend, but the effort was blocked.

Substitute Anthony Gordon was free on goal in the 85th minute but Vicente Guaita saved his shot. So, Everton squandered another opportunity to equalise.

On the other hand, Gallagher ensured the win for Crystal Palace. He disposed Seamus Coleman and then struck home a superb effort to underline his promise.
