Brighton & Hove Albion got a deserved point thanks to a late own goal by visiting defender Joachim Andersen. Among other Premier League football news, Brighton drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace at home on Friday.

The hosts thus settled for a point that moved them up to eighth in the standings. They now have a decent 28 points from 20 games.

On the other hand, their visitors yesterday, Crystal Palace, climbed to 11th place with 24 points, with a game more.

In last night’s match, Brighton dominated the first half and should have taken the lead in the 38th minute. But Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland saved Pascal Gross’ poorly-executed penalty in the 38th minute.

The hosts did have the ball in the net moments later. But Neal Maupay’s effort was ruled out for a foul on Butland following a VAR review.

Further Brighton chances came and went in the second half, but they could not make one count through Conor Gallagher. Gallagher, who is enjoying a fine season at Palace on loan from Chelsea, fired home in the 69th minute, and while it was impressively against the run of play, it didn’t work eventually.

Palace looked like they had done enough to secure all three points. However, Danish defender Anderson inadvertently diverted the ball into his own net three minutes from time.

Brighton’s Danny Welbeck almost snatched victory late on but headed over and the two teams ended on a 1-1 draw.
