Matheus Cunha, who played as a Hertha Berlin midfielder until now, has signed a five-year contract with Atletico Madrid.
And the forward will now hope to make a significant contribution to the 2021-22 season’s title defense of Los Rojiblancos.
Cunha had a fantastic season with Hertha last year after he joined them from RB Leipzig in January 2020.
Indeed, he thrived in his 18-month stay at Berlin, though the club was flirting with relegation in the German Bundesliga for much of his time there.
So refined was Cunho’s form, that the Hertha star’s performances even piqued the interest of the Brazilian national team. Eventually, Brazil even chose him to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as part of their Under-23 squad.
Subsequently, after indeed joining Brazil’s national team, Cunha went on to become a national hero during the Games.
After all, he started every match in Brazil’s Olympic campaign, which ended with the Selecao winning gold, except the semi-final.
