Jurgen Klopp has said that Mohammed Salah has the selfishness needed to win the Golden Boot. He said this quality is essential for Mohammed Salah to win his third Golden Boot this season. He termed Salah as a ‘natural goalscorer’. Salah has been embroiled in a battle with Harry Kane for the coveted Golden Boot. He has remained among the top 2 despite Liverpool’s struggles this season. The English striker’s double against Everton took him two clear of the Egyptian on the scoring charts.
If Salah can win the Golden Boot this season, it will be his third in the four seasons he has been at the Merseyside club. His manager Klopp feels this is something that sets him apart from the rest. Klopp said it was definitely an added incentive for any player to be the leading goalscorer in the league.
“A football player has 15 years, maybe 17 or 18 in some cases, in their career. It is a time in your life when you are at your physical best and you want to squeeze everything you can out of your career.” Klopp said. “Most of the players never win the Golden Boot. If you win it once it is a big achievement. If you win it twice it is a really big achievement, if you can win it a third time, there are not many players who have won it three times.”
Liverpool beat Aston Villa last weekend, their third consecutive win in the Premier League. This was the first time the Merseyside achieved this feat since September. Salah got his name on the teamsheet against Villa, scoring the equaliser.
“Strikers have to be selfish. I have never met an unselfish striker. You can be the nicest person in the world but in the end, you want to score goals and that means you do not see players in the same shirt.” he added. “He [Salah] is just a natural goalscorer, he wants to score goals. That is something he has developed later in his career. That is what world-class players do [score season after the season]. Knowing your own quality helps you get back on track quicker than others.”
