After Wales’ captain Gareth Bale (football news) dissented to the new schedule, France star and young World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe has protested against FIFA’s plans to hold a biennial World Cup, that is, FIFA’s proposal to conduct a World Cup every two years.

Football’s world (global) governing body, FIFA, has suggested a biennial competition as part of a revamp of the current calendar.

However, this proposal has garnered significant opposition from football professionals questioning how it would fit into their already-busy yearly schedule.

Even Kylian Mbappe countered that it would make the tournament less special and put a greater physical strain on players.

Now, Mbappe, who was a teenager playing with France when they won the 2018 World Cup, has opposed the idea.

Paris Saint-Germain striker Mbappe spoke at the Global Soccer Awards, where he became the Best Men’s Player of The Year.

And the 23-year-old PSG star said: “World Cup, every two years? I can’t say if it’s right or wrong.

“It’s something unique that happens every four years. Playing it every two years would become a normal competition.

“We already play 60 games a year. We are happy to play, but when it’s too much it is too much. If you want to have quality you have to allow the players to rest.”
