Ligue 1 Football News – With a 2-1 Home Win, PSG Remain First

Paris Saint-Germain are still at the top of the French top-flight league with maximum points after they just beat Lyon. So, for Lionel Messi’s debut at Parc des Princes, in Ligue 1 football news, with a 2-1 home win, PSG remain first on the French domestic league’s table.

Paris Saint-Germain were aiming to make it six for six with another victory in this latest Ligue 1 match.

And naturally, Lionel Messi was the name on everyone’s lips before the kick-off.

However, Messi left the action with 15 minutes remaining on the clock for his replacement, Achraf Hakimi, another new signing.

Indeed, Messi cut a frustrated figure after failing to mark his home debut with a goal.

The first half between Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon was surprisingly boring as neither team managed to break the scoreless deadlock.

Then, in the second half too, chances were few and far between for Lyon.

However, yet another new PSG player, goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, did make a good save to block Xherdan Shaqiri’s fierce shot.

Lyon, however, ended up taking the lead first anyway after Lucas Paqueta’s brilliant left-footed strike in the 54th minute.

Pochettino’s men then restored the parity 12 minutes later. Actually, the referee awarded the Parisian side a penalty which Neymar converted.

There was to be one final twist in this match though. Mauro Icardi entered the pitch with only 8 minutes before the final whistle.

And Icardi scored a late winner after Kylian Mbappe’s cross sending the ball into the bottom left corner. His goal sparked wild scenes of jubilation in the French capital.
