Ligue 1 Football News – Nice May Win Their Suspended Match
The Ligue 1 third round clash between Nice and Marseille faced suspension with only 15 minutes remaining on the clock.
The game saw a chaotic interruption when a bottle flying out from the stands hit Dimitri Payet. The bottle came flying from the crowd and hit Payet while he was taking a corner.
What’s more, Payet actually threw the bottle back to the stands. This enraged the already-charged Nice fans, who then invaded the pitch and started a huge fight with the players involved.
In light of the madness that ensued, the referee decided to suspend the match quickly thereafter.
An hour later the hosts and the referee staff came back on the pitch in order to resume the match.
Marseille, however, refused to do so.
With one team refusing to continue playing, the head referee had no choice but to blow the final whistle prematurely.
And now, according to Ligue 1 rules, Olympique de Marseille is very likely to be awarded technical defeat for their refusal.
So, Nice may enjoy a default victory in a match where they were leading 1-0, Get French Football News reports.
