The deciding goal was scored by Patrick Bamford in the 88th minute with a header after a cross by Jack Harrison.
At the opening of the season he scored a goal in a 3-4 away defeat to Liverpool, while in the second round he scored in a 4-3 win against Fulham.
Bamford thus made club history by becoming the first Leeds player to shake a rival net in every match in the first three rounds of the elite class of English football.
