ISL Football News – SCEB’s Interim Manager Is Happy with the 1-1 Tie

SC East Bengal (SCEB) were close to registering their first win in the 2021-22 Indian Super League (ISL) season. Bengaluru held East Bengal to a 1-1 draw at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim, Goa, on Tuesday. But even as we covered that in today’s ISL football news, SCEB’s interim manager is happy with the 1-1 tie yesterday. Renedy Singh, a former Indian national team captain himself, has discussed his team SC East Bengal’s performance.

Among the foreigners, Renedy Singh handed starts to Daniel Chima and Tomislav Mrcela whom Ankit Mukherjee replaced around the hour-mark. Meanwhile, Amir Dervisevic remained an unused substitute in the tie last night.

“Bengaluru had only one clear-cut chance but we got three open chances, from which we scored one and could have scored two. So now again with the players we have and so many foreigners out, we cannot play that expensive game, but I’m really proud with the way the players have fought,” stated the former East Bengal midfielder.

Indeed, this ISL fixture on Tuesday night, Semboi Haokip (28′) opened the scoring for SCEB with a diving header. But, fortunately for Bengaluru, SCEB goalkeeper Sourav Das (OG 55′) handed the equaliser to the opposition with an own goal.

Interim manager Renedy Singh has another two matches to oversee with SC East Bengal. He will then hand over the charge to incoming head coach Mario Rivera who is under mandatory quarantine.

“With the situation we are in, it is difficult but we could have nicked in (for three points). To be given a charge for three matches, let’s see if I can do well in the next two matches. After that, I will hand over to the coach (Rivera) who has come in,” said Singh.

“We could have been better with the ball (against Bengaluru) but we kept the shape while defending and while counter-attacking – it was nice to see,” he added.

SC East Bengal will be next in action against leaders Mumbai City FC at the Tilak Maidan on Friday.

On the other hand, Bengaluru FC play the same team in their next assignment at the Fatorda on Monday.
