Odisha FC came back from behind to win 4-2 over Mumbai City FC on Monday in the Indian Super League. And as we covered in this ISL football news, Jerry Mawihmingthanga’s brace saved Odisha FC against league leaders Mumbai City.

Mumbai City FC head coach Des Buckingham, after this away loss, reflected on his team’s performance. And the Englishman identified his side’s mistakes against Odisha FC and how they need to improve.

He said: “I just think we need to be better individually and better collectively. There are a lot of things we need to do to prevent the ball from getting where it got to and then going for a goal. That’s an area we need to work on as a team. Individually, we need to defend as well as we can.”

But Buckingham did appreciate his players’ gameplay in the first half: “In the first half, I think we were exceptional. We played some extremely good football and we should have been leading by more than one goal. We defended really well. This did not continue in the second half and that is something we need to address going into the next match against East Bengal.”

Aridai Cabrera (4′) scored an early goal against the run of play to give Odisha the initial lead.

But Mumbai’s Ahmed Jahouh (11′) quickly levelled the game with a superb finish of his own.

Igor Angulo (38′) then put his team ahead with his goal giving Mumbai a 1-2 tally going into the half-time break.

However, after the play resumed in the second half, Mawihmingthanga scored a memorable brace (70′, 77′) to recover Odisha’s lead.

And finally, Jonathas (89′) put the result beyond any doubt by scoring the fourth.

The result leaves Des Buckingham’s league leaders winless in three games and this loss has blown the league wide open. For instance, Kiko Ramirez and his Odisha are a mere three points behind the leaders, despite them being in seventh place on the table.

Next, top-ranked Mumbai City FC will play bottom-ranked SC East Bengal at the Tilak Maidan on Friday. Meanwhile, Odisha FC faces Juan Ferrando’s ATK Mohun Bagan at the Fatorda on Saturday.
