Gremio Have Fired Luiz Felipe Scolari as Their Head Coach

Based in Porto Alegre, Brazilian professional football club Gremio have fired Luiz Felipe Scolari as their head coach yesterday.

Luiz Felipe Scolari has been a recurrent figure in Gremio’s management team.

The club’s greatest successes under Scolari’s command were back in the 90’s. That was when Gremio managed to win both the domestic cup and the championship, Libertadores Cup and the Recopa Sudamericana.

Then, he again took over the team for the 4th time back in July, but failed to improve the situation.

Under Scolari’s leadership, Gremio only have 23 points after 23 fixtures being the penultimate, viz. last, team in the standings. The club has witnessed 10 wins, 10 losses and 3 draws in this season of Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A.

Gremio are thus officially in the relegation zone, which is why, on Monday, they made big news by making a big change.

Gremio Have Fired Luiz Felipe Scolari as Their Head Coach

On Monday, Gremio Football Club have decided to part ways with Luiz Felipe Scolari, as the club’s press office reported.

‘The Tricolors’ management have dismissed the former Chelsea and Brazil NT manager following the 0-1 defeat to Santos. It was the last nail in the head coach’s career’s coffin after their dismal performance in the Brazilian Serie A.

The decision, for Gremio, came after a meeting in which they determined to fire Scolari (and team) by mutual agreement.

A club statement then announced the separation of Felipe, along with his assistants Carlos Pracidelli and Paulo Turra. Also facing the sack is the team’s physical trainer Anselmo Sbragia.

The document said: “The club appreciates the commitment and respect to the coach and his team with the institution during the work period. At the same time, Luiz Felipe recorded his gratitude to the Guild: ‘I will continue to be a union member, as I always was and always will be.’”
