Willian joined the Gunners on a free transfer after leaving London rivals Chelsea, signing a three-year contract at Emirates Stadium.
And during the 2020-21 season, the 33-year-old appeared in 37 games across all competitions, scoring one goal on 27 shots.
More importantly, though, he assisted on seven goals for teammates, easily exceeding his expected assist total of 3.14. Two of these assists came from dead-ball situations.
On the other hand, Willian has only made four Premier League starts after the turn of the year. And this is why Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta went with different options in his team.

Willian agreed to terminate his contract with Arsenal that was going to expire in two years, in 2023.
He took this decision after what the club described as “positive and constructive” discussions between all parties.

The club also added that he was seeking “new opportunity” with Corinthians, the club where he started his professional career.
